Review of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit
Raw Experience!
By Kyle Layton · Nov 5, 2016
This is, a perfect redo of the old NFS Hot Pursuit. Seriously graphics and extremely improved physics than it's prequel, the Prostreet, purely focusing on driving experience and intense pursuits.
There's not much of a story, you just get an introduction, and that's it, you play the game without any further narrative plot. It ends if you finished the final race, which is a sick marathon, and there will be an ending scene and credits. But the lack of the storyline is perfectly covered by the driving experience.
The most striking feature of this game is obviously the graphic. It's very, very, HD by the time it was released. Not to mention the texture detail of the world details. If you look closely, the texture details is very focused, that if you go to the raw data, most packages are dedicated to texture packages, it's pretty advanced graphics, but surely the visual effects are not as striking. Gameplay is pretty addicting and challenging. Unlike the conventional positioning system before, this time you'll get medals. Basically 1st place gets a Distinction, 2nd gets a Merit, and I forgot the 3rd one is, but basically they use that system for various races, such as time attack and the placement system. Mostly time attacks, because this game is totally about how good you are behind the wheel.
There's your regular cicruit, arms race (sprint), duel, and time attack, and there's gauntlet, time attack with cops, and some other various cop-related races. Most of the races basically is about running from cops and finish the race because hey, look at the game's title. What's cool of this one is, you get to be a cop. You, can alternatively switch between being a racer or a cop, and they have totally different missions and different cars. Cops mission is very single purposed, take down racers.
To intensify the pursuits, everyone gets a series of equipment to do either defensive or aggresive maneuvers. Racers got spike strips, EMP, jammer, and turbo. Spike strips are obvious, EMP is a ranged attack, basically it finds a target and if you locked into somone, it'll knock out the target, disabling them. Jammer is for counterattacking EMP and to disable other's equipments. Turbo is a brutal acceleration boost for last resorts, but often used as a battering ram, because damn look at the speedometer go. Every equiptment is limtied, and has a different quantity so you don't just spam it all over the track.
Cops get the spike and EMP, but the 3rd they get a chopper, and a roadblock deploy. Very useful for tracking racers or taking down people. Each equipment has an upgrade that drastically increase their effectiveness. The cars are also very abundant and thoughtfully selected, because the cops and racers have literally different choices. But instead of buying them, you can unlock them with bounty points, so basically if you're a racer and you fight the cops, you get bounty, and for cops, just knock racers down. The cars are also tier divided, like the NFS carbon, again, it ranges their speed level.
The physics system is also VERY intense at the time, because say, if you drift with a Porsche than with a Mustang, you'll get this different feel of grip. And not to mention every car has a different setting, which I think is quite neat, considering there's over 50 cars. And the physics when you get hit, or hit a car is very realistic. Taking down cops or racers is easy if you know the weak point, but rather hard if you're just randomly crashing to them.
Overall, this is the pure driving experience of cop chases, so if you're not a purist, don't buy it.
