Simple Mouse Clicker

03/21/2015

Goblin Treature Hunt from Dojo flash games looks decent when it starts and the game's description suggests there some depth to the game beyond clicking your mouse button.  There have been many clicker games, most striving to improve upon the genre.  This game though is just too basic to be any fun.  Sure, it may provide a player with a half hour or even a n hour of enjoyment, but after the first few minutes of play the game just becomes a chore.

The game has two action screens (battling enemies for gold and gems, and another panel for beating on chests for gold and items).  You start out the game with a scrawny goblin whacking on a chest.  As your money accumulates you can spend it on faeries that collect gold automatically or a handfull of other improvements.  You can also use it to whack on another chest to collect items.  You can only hold 18 items though so you'll spend a fair amount of time swapping back and forth between picking up items and selling them.  Your character can only wield two items - shield and weapon.  Fron the items chest you will also get a lot of useleass items only good for selling.  The items chest can be changed from level 1 to level 10. Although the cost of whacking a level 10 chest is more expensive than whacking a level 1 chest, you only have the potential of finding the higher level items.

You can also go to the battle screen and click on enemies to gain gems and gold.  At the top of the screen is a series of circles, one each for the level of enemy.  When you begin, all but one circle will be locked.  To beat an enemy you have 10 seconds to reduce it's health to 0.  Once beaten, the next circle unlocks and you can move on up to harder opponents.  When you reach the last enemies in the row, the game "ends" but take you back to the chest beating screen.  When you return to the battle screen there is a second row of circles but this time around there is nothing waiting for you when you beat the last enemy.

As you battle enemies, they drop gems which you can collect to change your goblin into a more powerful creature and buy wings.

Although I played through the game until there was nothing left to unlock, I wouldn't call it a fun game.  It was tedious and boring.  It didn't help that there is a memory leak either in the game or in Adobe's recent Flash update that caused the game (and Firefox) to slow to a crawl.  The troll kills my browser and provided me with incentive to stop wasting time with a game that wasn't much fun.  On NewGrounds the game was rated 4 stars.  I rate it a 2.
