When Glenn Beck Came

Here's a Tower Defense type of game that didn't make it into the "Good Games" category. "When The Plague Came" is a defense game where you control some guy on a turret and shoot zombies before they reach your base or destroy it.

So yeah, that's how the gameplay is, just you aiming at zombies and shooting them until they die. Actually, it's not just that because, there are also enemy types. Oh boy! What we got? Too many to even bother because the game is a bit boring after all. We got the good ol' zombies, then we got the "Crawlers", nasty aborted fetuses (which I bet Glenn Beck would LOVE to talk about them). Not just that, we got some sort of zombies with giant worms for hands that explode some fluid making the Crawlers stronger. Uh oh! There are many more enemy types such as the Slug Parasite, which is as nasty as it sounds and looks.

The game tries to be less boring by implementing Upgrades, both for you (Weapon Upgrades) and your base (Fortress Upgrades). Weapon Upgrades do look unique, it's nothing like "Upgrade Damage +1" and counting, it's something like "Piercing Bullets" which increases damage. Besides, they're not exclusive, by that I mean...The "Piercing Bullets" for example, you might think it's only for the first weapon which is the MG, but no, it's also for the Shotgun. That's nice. I do like these rather unique upgrades.

The weapons range from the good ol' Machinegun to the Shotgun, Saw Thrower, Grenade Launcher, Freeze Thrower, Acid Blaster, Bolt Rod and Dragon's Breath. Sounds like the typical "trying to be unique" kind of guns, and they sure do. I still use the machinegun myself over all these, but I guess they can be tried, why not?

The "Fortress Upgrades" are mostly for traps, walls (which can even be just an acid sprayer) and shooters (or meleeists) inside the base. Every time you get one of them, "Risk" is added, which I still don't get what the fuck it means but it seems to be some sort of balancing thingy, which, yeah, it sucks.

Do I even have to say anything about graphics? It's just terribly goddamn ugly. The detail is very dim, you can't hardly appreciate anything worth looking at and it's just small. It is true that the models are still good enough to know that they look just terribly goddamn nasty, but I wish there was more. This game offers so little in terms of graphics, so very little. Luckily, it could be worse, and there are games that have stuff worse than this, so...

The models are the only ones worth looking at, kind of. They're actually more disgusting at how ugly they look than how really disgusting they are. I mean, isn't it disgusting when you see a guy that has giant twitching worms for arms? Yep.

Sound also suffers from this. A good example is the Machinegun, the sound itself is already just unpleasant to hear, but it gets worse when you realize that shooting it releases more bullets than it makes sounds. Besides, the zombie sounds are so faint as well as the gore sounds but it gets worse when you hear how repetitive they get.

I don't have much more to say about it. All I can say is that, this game had a lot of potential but it seems to have been wasted. It's worth a try I guess, but don't expect it to be much fun.
