Decent war game, has the start of something special, but doesn't deliver

You put together a crew of basically Vikings and raid islands.  Decent upgrade system and a decision-making challenge (upgrade islands to get more gold from them, or upgrade troops to capture more islands) seems like it should be a really good game, but the gameplay is only average, feels like it could have been much better.  To stop you from just upgrading one unit type and using nothing but them, each unit has their own special attack, which is stronger the more of the same unit you bring along.  The special attacks have a long cooldown, and fights are protracted affairs, so in each skirmish you'll want to use a few of your specials (to lose fewer troops and save more for later skirmishes) but also save a few (or else you'll have to do without in the next skirmish).  Different powers have different levels of effectiveness and different cooldowns, so you start to get into a routine that almost reminds me of an MMO's ability-order combos.

Story is pretty weak.  There's a short slideshow basically at the start (skippable is the best thing I can say about it) and a boss at the end, and some early fights will need to free your captured units so you can use them.  That's it for story.  The music is actually pretty good, but the combat sounds can get annoying, and they share a mute button.  Graphics are good but not spectacular (it is a Flash game).  The Trainer-able hacks are really good - "No riots" is basically infinite gold by itself, enemies don't attack is a guaranteed win, no cooldown is pretty close to one.  Probably very little replay value (honestly, I'm not even going to finish it - I beat the game after having captured only the outermost ring of islands) for most players.

Not terrible, but not amazing.  Worth a play for the rare level set-up, but will probably get old before you finish.  6/10 would hack again, but only for badges
