Some-Thing Arena 3

Thing-Thing Arena 3. You may know that I really love the Thing-Thing series games, but in this case, Arena is something I don't "love" as such. Thing-Thing Arena 1 sucked, Thing-Thing Arena 2 was great, and now, this one? Well, this one I got a mixed opinion...Scratch that, I like it but not as much as the others, that is why you see I gave it a 6 instead of a 7 and up.

The gameplay has radically changed as I can see. Sure, the ammo system is still intact, you can't shoot without ammo, but that's not the case anymore; there's now a reloading system. Wow! It's okay I guess, the animations aren't bad but they're not "realistic" so to say either. Why? Well, try reloading a shotgun, even if you shot 7 times you'll just load 2 buckshoots. Yeah, this is very similar to RE4 and RE5 (I suppose RE6 as well, not sure). Also, Thing-Thing Arena 2 had several gamemodes with randomized arenas, in Thing-Thing Arena 3, you only got the typical "shooting enemies" with a location you can choose. It sucks that the other modes have been removed, especially "Zombie". What is new is the "Casual" and "Hardcore" gamemode, in which you can also change the length and waves, but this doesn't give any justice for the removal of the other gamemodes.

Also, remember the enemy types in Thing-Thing Arena 2? There were SWAT guys and some sort of daemon-headed whiteys. Well, those don't exist anymore. The enemy system is now just a decoration, but the thing is, it's no longer randomized, it seems, it's more uniformed than before. Although I did see some "White SWAT" guys, but it seems that they are the same as others, just a decoration to be more intimidating.

The weapons in Thing-Thing Arena 3 act like they're all unique but that's not true. You only have one pistol, the Beretta, you also start with a silly Thompson SMG in every arena. You then have two Shotguns, one semi-auto and another full-auto. Then for some strange reason, you got two or three SMGs. There is an assault rifle, Tavor, as sexy as it looks it is sadly kinda weak. So, as you can see, this is somewhat similar to Thing-Thing Arena 2, you got weapons but not variety, they're all rather unique. There is some new weaponry not located in the other Thing-Thing games though, such as the Rebound Gun and the Acid Gun. Rebound Gun is deeply unreliable, Acid Gun is nice (and if you use my hacks, it will be just overkill).

What is the game about, you might ask? Well, it's just the arena and in here you fight enemies until you die. Simple as that, right? Yeah, it is simple as that actually.

Graphics got some improvement, the best one I can see is the weapons. Remember how the eject port was from all sides, left and right? Not anymore! Cool. The best improvement I could ever find was the gore though. Yeah, it is yet again improved. Seems that now you get those gory skull headshots and not just a head explosion. Also, try using Acid Bomb, the whole skin will be removed to reveal a skeleton, that's gorily nice.

Sound remains the same, so I can't say much about it. But for music I sure can say something, it seems that Weasel finally got somebody to make music for him, and it seems to be back to Electro-Industrial, nice! My favourite one is the one in the Dungeon level.

All in all, this game is fun, but not as much fun as Arena 2. Still worth a try, I guess.
