Realm of the Mad God is a 2D action MMO with some characteristics of a bullet-hell game.
The God Oryx has transported you to his realm as food for his minions. Will you proceed quietly to your fate or fight back?
The game begins in a slaughterhouse where you are to meet your grim fate, but instead you decide to fight your way out to freedom through butchers and evil chickens. The tutorial and the storyline end there and you are teleported to the 'Nexus'.
The 'Nexus' is a castle where players can talk, trade items, etc. where no enemies can spawn. It holds portals to 'The Vault' (the player's private storehouse), 'Pet Yard', 'Guild Hall', and 'The Realm'. The player can teleport to the Nexus at any time from anywhere by using the akward shortcut 'Insert'.
The Realm is where all the fighting and adventure happens. It is a massive, semi-randomly-generated island with a mountain in the middle. Players can spawn in several locations on the beach (the easiest biome). Biomes become progressively harder towards the middle of the island - the main ones of these being the beach, lowlands, midlands, highlands and godlands (the peak of the mountain). There are also countless other structures and biomes, each with it's own enemies and quests.
There are 14 different charcter classes to choose from, most of which need to be unlocked by playing other classes. The classes are generally divided into the staff group (wizard, necromancer, mystic), wand group (priest, sorcerer), sword group (knight, warrior, paladin), dagger group (rogue, assasin, trickster), bow group (archer, huntress), and the ninja. The classes in the same group use the same type of weapon, but have different special abilities and stats.
This game is generally fasioned as a round-based game. Characters, upon death, get deleted and have to be re-created. Most of the game in a nutshell is: 'Make a character, go into the realm, get xp and loot... and then redo upon death'.
The graphics of this game are 8-bit and the sound effects are very simple - however, for some reason, the game tends to lag a lot. Disconnections are frequent, low FPS and laggy controls are the norm. That, paired with the fact that characters get deleted upon death makes for many ragequits.
The controls for this game are often sort of weird, but fortunately can be editited.
The game is slightly of a Pay2Win and some aspects of the game (such as soloing high-level dungeons) are not possible to reach without buying gold or hacking.
In general, a good game with very good replayability.
