This is sure as hell one of my favourite Flash games. The main goal is simple, all you have to do is scare all the people in the haunted mansion up. Captain Obvious, I am, huh? I got a moustachio for a reason.
Gameplay; The way you play it is by using a variety of furnitures scattered around the house. Each furniture has its own unique scare method and flaws. For example, the bigger the furniture, the scarier it is but it's not mobile at all, making it useful when the guests are near that furniture. There is a progress system where you need to scare people up a lot to get more ways to scare people. Yeah, that's right. You can move a teapot as much as you can, but you can also make it spawn a shadow to scare people, except you can't because you need to have a longer scary meter. And watch out, some of these guests might get way too spooked, they'll suicide! If you can kill them all, I'd consider you a badass and give you a real moustachio.
Graphics; It takes place on what appears to be a Victorian Era, or the Industrial Era. The guests are all...Limbless. They walk with feet and use hands with their hands, they have no arms or legs. It's a graphical style and I don't mind, it's also kinda funny, heh! Also, every time you possess a furniture, it changes the style to your style. That is, you're a pretty-faced sad-looking whiteish ghost, well, that's how the furniture will be too, face included.
Sound; The music is a Classical-style piano and violin, kind of catchy I guess, but not really good. Doesn't sound spooky at all either, but of course, this isn't a game meant to be scary, just a game meant to scare others, heh. The sounds are alright, but kind of generic, like the Bear's shout. They're not bad, but they don't sound too cool to be scary. Though there are actually some scary-sounding noises, like the shadow leafy black creature's appearance.
The only flaws I've seen is that there is only one place, but of course then it wouldn't be called "Haunt the House" at all. Also, the guests are kind of bland and strange, are those midgets or children? Children could go to parties during the Victorian or Industrial era? Oh well, just like them having no legs or arms, it's all a style or so, every game developer has an excuse, huh?
Overall, I think this is a very fun game, no matter if you're bored or not bored, everyone should try it out.
On a side note, there's a new "Haunt the House" game called "Haunt the House: Terrortown" and it's on Steam for 5 euros (Read; €UROS), it's worth a try if you REALLY liked Haunt the House, but it's almost like the first one, with just more locations and some "unique" NPCs to scare up, but it's extremely sort for the price. Still, your choice after all.
