EDIT: I think I goof'd and posted in the wrong section... Or am I just confused since I haven't been on konghack for a while?

I wanted to become a more proficient hacker, and two professionals (I believe one was Zenwaichi) suggested that I start off by learning x86 Assembly. My problem though, is the amount of references there are to things I haven't learned yet, (because in school, we're still on converting denary to binary and vice versa on different bases like plebs.) I want to start from scratch, because at the moment, I feel like I'm going from level 0.4, to level 2. I want to traverse the levels in chronological order. I don't really care how long it takes me, as long as I make progress. Where should I start?
