I'm updating this post with current information since it's far to difficult to read or ask nicely in chat.  This first post won't make any sense in the thread due to the update, so I'll preserve the original content below the horizontal line below.

  1. When your account is created, you are given 100 points.  Do with them what you will.  I'd suggest making a few posts and chatting a bit to bump those up, then play the stocks game to earn a few thousand points.  You could also ask for a  sponsorship.  There's a shit load of ways to earn points, so don't complain if you don't have any and get dropped.  This is your warning.
  2. Your account will lose 2 points every day.  Once your account hits -100 (that's negative one hundred), your account will be point dropped.  THIS IS NOT A BAN AND NOT A DELETION.  Your account is still there, and you can still access the site as a guest.
  3. Every month, we send out a redemption email.  If your account is point dropped, you can reactivate your account and give yourself 200 points to get back up and running.
  4. Sponsorship can restore point dropped accounts once the account is above -100 points.  The system takes care of this stuff nightly.  A sponsor restored account doesn't count against redemptions, so this is definitely a nifty way to reactivate dropped accounts.
  5. If you donate at least $1 to the site, you'll get a bunch of points, and the 2 points per day system will stop running on your account.  That means unless you really do something to piss us off and get yourself banned, you'll have an account here forever.  You also get a fancy banner next to your name in the post lists, and you get an icon by your name nearly everwhere else.

But why would someone want to implement a points system like this?  Isn't this just being a dick?
We want activity and content.  We're not one of those bullshit forums that boasts a million fucking members.  Why?  Because having 100 active members but saying you've got a million is just bullshit.  It's an out right lie, and we're not going to go down like that.  If we wanted to, we could just create a fuck ton of bullshit accounts and lie our asses off, but we won't.  Sorry if we've got a higher standard of what a community is, but touting a million dead accounts just isn't our bag baby.

(Note: Poste edited 2014-07-28)

Here's the post before I came in and edited it. Hey there everyone! I've given everyone 100 points, and all new registrants will start off with 100 points. Why you may ask? Read on!

I spent a lot of time trying to find a way to promote activity, and came up with the points system. Since nearly everything you do accumulates points, and since everyone now starts with 100 points, and after days of planning and thought, I came up with an idea...

The old FlashCheats had around 74,000 members, and out of those, only ~5,500 actually transferred, since I didn't transfer 0 post accounts. Well, I don't want this site to wind up with an ass load of inactive accounts, so I've devised a plan that involves the points system.

Picture this. Every day, you lose 2 points. That means you can create an account and not do anything for 100 days!  Still, your account will eventually be deleted if you don't do anything.  How do you earn points you ask?  Just check out the points list! There's a handful of ways to earn points, plus if you donate at least $1, you're account will be around forever.

Anyway, I'm thinking this might just be a bad ass idea, and a great way to go to eliminate dead accounts.

I suppose this is enough for now. Let me know what you guys think! I'm not doing anything without a little /b/lackup.

Personally, while I think the system in general has merit, I think the lock and then IP ban is a little rough. I mean, if someone doesn't post for a while, then yeah, I get locking their account in an attempt to flush out dead accounts; with that said however..an IP ban? So if I don't post for a while, now not only can I not reactivate my account, but I can't even access the site anymore? That seems pretty harsh.

Unless I'm completely misinterpreting what you're saying, in which case, please excuse my ignorance. ;)

I believe that the banning of IP's is also rough since for example..If someone has an emergancy and has get out quick and for a while, they come back from said thing and finds out that their IP is banned from using the site.

Another example...
Someone is drafted into the military and absolutely can't log on and can't do anything about it. Finally come back from their service and nothing can be about being let back onto the site besides maybe emailing TIM, which most people would probably not have his email or other means on contacting him unless they whois'd the site.

Edit: What if you hit 5k pts, buy the 5k item from the store and don't logon for a couple days

Edits Etc.: Maybe once a month lock the accounts with 0 posts. If they log in they get sent to a page with a captcha or something to unlock the account...Simple and doesn't require too much work on either end

I think tim's hardon for bans clouds his judgement. Nobody has static IPs. IP bans are stupid.
bans are stupid. whats the difference if a table is full of banned accounts, or a table has inactive accounts?

I think it should.

IMO too many rules pushes people away. if you make it a hassle to come here, people will go elsewhere. If people go elsewhere, noone will post hacks.

I know it sucks people dont post 15 times a day, but the people who would have posted aobs and shit, just add hacks now. so theres less posts. Its a great system, but theres less posts.

even if they dont post they still give traffic. traffic still drives ad revenue. relax with that ban hammer yo.

I use this AoB tool to make all the AoBs I post. Try the online version if you dont feel like downloading it.

A1 to A0 architect.
How about we leave the entire plan intact, except augment already brilliant organization and foresight, with an opportunity for restitution.

An offending user (having likely been warned of impending account closure many times) could get an ip ban removed by downloading a small Account.Regainer.msi, and allowing that program to verify 60 seconds a continuous connection to a nimp/zoy domain. The small account regaining program could also verify sound was enabled, a browser was active and displayed on the screen, and could also verify zero keyboard or mouse movement. After 60 seconds - poof, all access back. It's easy, and free.

Also, Last Measure could be installed to /believable.php?safe on KH and the Account.Regainer just directed there. BSD License? Damn GNAA, you classy.

I haven't seen the blackup picture since phillyflyers15, thanks.

Excellent, responses! I was hoping throwing some bullshit about IP bans in there would rile the crowd. :)

The main reason I suggest using points is: one hack gives you 150pts! 75 days, for just 1 hack post. Much more valuable than a regular forum post. Anyway, I've updated the first post. Thoughts now?

i think sol posts should be worth more. its ridiculously easy to find a game and autosubmit it, whereas a sol you have to actually edit, or take the time of playing the game, to get the same amount of points for 3 clicks

I think this is a good idea but for those of us like myself who only really know how to use the hacks via CE and the like and not knowing how to find AoBs it might make it hard for us to keep up points. Say if i finish a game before it gets badges and upload the .sol file would that count towards things? Just wanna know how its all gonna work cause i love this site and learn alot about how the games work. Thanks a ton :)

Uploading a SOL file grants you 100pts (or 50 days). Posts grant 5 points, plus bonus points the longer the post actually is. Simply voting on a hack is 5pts. 5 freakin points for clicking one button. And if multiple hacks are listed for a game, and you vote on them, MORE POINTS!

Since I wasn't able to import the massive sol pack (mainly since I can't interpret the file structure into something I can use), upload upload upload! Upload 8 SOL files, and you're good for over a year!

The thing is, you know about this, so compensate. If you want to buy a 5K item, make sure you have 5100 or something. :P

Hell, I'll even put a warning on the confirmation box that says "After you purchase this, you will have X days (X points) left on your account.

I've also thought about making "premium" accounts that are basicaly ban proof, don't see ads, and don't lose points. I'll just hand that out to people that have been here for forever, or whatever we deem fit.

Meh, thoughts...
