I'm updating this post with current information since it's far to difficult to read or ask nicely in chat. This first post won't make any sense in the thread due to the update, so I'll preserve the original content below the horizontal line below.
But why would someone want to implement a points system like this? Isn't this just being a dick?

Personally, while I think the system in general has merit, I think the lock and then IP ban is a little rough. I mean, if someone doesn't post for a while, then yeah, I get locking their account in an attempt to flush out dead accounts; with that said however..an IP ban? So if I don't post for a while, now not only can I not reactivate my account, but I can't even access the site anymore? That seems pretty harsh.
Unless I'm completely misinterpreting what you're saying, in which case, please excuse my ignorance. ;) - SJ |

does logging in count as doing something?

I believe that the banning of IP's is also rough since for example..If someone has an emergancy and has get out quick and for a while, they come back from said thing and finds out that their IP is banned from using the site.
Another example... Someone is drafted into the military and absolutely can't log on and can't do anything about it. Finally come back from their service and nothing can be about being let back onto the site besides maybe emailing TIM, which most people would probably not have his email or other means on contacting him unless they whois'd the site. Edit: What if you hit 5k pts, buy the 5k item from the store and don't logon for a couple days Edits Etc.: Maybe once a month lock the accounts with 0 posts. If they log in they get sent to a page with a captcha or something to unlock the account...Simple and doesn't require too much work on either end |

IMO too many rules pushes people away. if you make it a hassle to come here, people will go elsewhere. If people go elsewhere, noone will post hacks. I know it sucks people dont post 15 times a day, but the people who would have posted aobs and shit, just add hacks now. so theres less posts. Its a great system, but theres less posts. even if they dont post they still give traffic. traffic still drives ad revenue. relax with that ban hammer yo. I use this AoB tool to make all the AoBs I post. Try the online version if you dont feel like downloading it. |

How about we leave the entire plan intact, except augment already brilliant organization and foresight, with an opportunity for restitution.
An offending user (having likely been warned of impending account closure many times) could get an ip ban removed by downloading a small Account.Regainer.msi, and allowing that program to verify 60 seconds a continuous connection to a nimp/zoy domain. The small account regaining program could also verify sound was enabled, a browser was active and displayed on the screen, and could also verify zero keyboard or mouse movement. After 60 seconds - poof, all access back. It's easy, and free. Also, Last Measure could be installed to /believable.php?safe on KH and the Account.Regainer just directed there. BSD License? Damn GNAA, you classy. I haven't seen the blackup picture since phillyflyers15, thanks. atdt *67 |

Excellent, responses! I was hoping throwing some bullshit about IP bans in there would rile the crowd. :)
The main reason I suggest using points is: one hack gives you 150pts! 75 days, for just 1 hack post. Much more valuable than a regular forum post. Anyway, I've updated the first post. Thoughts now? (Points List)

i think sol posts should be worth more. its ridiculously easy to find a game and autosubmit it, whereas a sol you have to actually edit, or take the time of playing the game, to get the same amount of points for 3 clicks

I think this is a good idea but for those of us like myself who only really know how to use the hacks via CE and the like and not knowing how to find AoBs it might make it hard for us to keep up points. Say if i finish a game before it gets badges and upload the .sol file would that count towards things? Just wanna know how its all gonna work cause i love this site and learn alot about how the games work. Thanks a ton :)

Uploading a SOL file grants you 100pts (or 50 days). Posts grant 5 points, plus bonus points the longer the post actually is. Simply voting on a hack is 5pts. 5 freakin points for clicking one button. And if multiple hacks are listed for a game, and you vote on them, MORE POINTS!
Since I wasn't able to import the massive sol pack (mainly since I can't interpret the file structure into something I can use), upload upload upload! Upload 8 SOL files, and you're good for over a year!

The thing is, you know about this, so compensate. If you want to buy a 5K item, make sure you have 5100 or something. :P
Hell, I'll even put a warning on the confirmation box that says "After you purchase this, you will have X days (X points) left on your account. I've also thought about making "premium" accounts that are basicaly ban proof, don't see ads, and don't lose points. I'll just hand that out to people that have been here for forever, or whatever we deem fit. Meh, thoughts...
