I would suggest for you the 2 best free roam 3D games I've ever played.
Elder Scrolls 5 : Skyrim and Fallout 4.
These gamas contain a lot of gameplay adventure, tactics and requires a lot of skills.
Not to mention that you can get a lot of DLCs and thousends of mods for your personal likeings.
Or if you like to play with others than play Injustice 1-2 or some of the Mortal Combat games

There is a ton to choose from, depending on your personal preferences.
If you enjoy shooters or action games, try Battlefield, Mirror's Edge, Crysis, Metro, Hitman, Shadow of Morder, Tomb Raider or Doom. If you are more into RPGs, Mass Effect, Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Mount & Blade, Dark Souls, Assassin's Creed, Dragon Age, The Witcher, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Deus ex, are all pretty good.

Here are a few suggestions based on my own preference and past experince so
there is no single favorite...

Resident evil 1,2,3,4,5 , Revelations 1 and 2 ( have to play 6 and 7)

Fallout 3 , Fallout NewVegas , Fallout 4 (have great modding community so great replayability value IMO)

Dying Light

Prey 2017

Hitman 1 , Hitman 2 Silent Assasin , Hitman 3 Contracts, Hitman 4 Blood Money,...
Hitman 5 Absolution

and Freedom Fighters by ioi interactive (this one is a hidden gem) and did justice
to alternative timeline genre way before Wolfenstein The New Order cemented it as a
means to reviving the franchise.

Unreal Tournament 2000 (Classic) and Quake 3 Arena (also a classic)

Doom with mods on zdoom gzdoom sourceport for single player or the other port (Zandronum) for multiplayer

Duke Nukem 3D and mods on Eduke32 sourceport

It's a bit hard to suggest without knowing a genre, but Carmageddon is pretty fun & Forza Horizons is fairly decent also.

As said before, without a genre is hard to suggest. I'd go for a Morrowind or Fallout game setting, depending on your prefference. Both series are great.
