Hey guys, it's been a while.

Should we keep this site going?  I haven't ran any kinda updates on it in years, and our primary focus (Kongregate/Flash) is dieing out.  The general activity is mostly gone, various pieces of the system have died off, and any development on the trainer has since ceased years ago.

It's a shitty thing to think about, but should we just call it quits and shut things down?  If not, is there any hope for ever regaining users?

If the site will either have to change its focus or die, let's try to think of something that enough people would want to work on. Currently, KongHack is a game hacking site that specializes in flash games, especially games on Kongregate. We could change that to:

1. General game hacking. Problem: Too much competition.
2. X game/company game hacking. Basically, find an alternative to Kongregate – a niche that no one else has thought of. Problem: What game/company? Do enough of our members have the expertise and motivation to pursue this?
3. Stick with flash games. Problem: How?
  - KongHack Flashpoint client/plugin (MIT license).
  - Prehack arcade with ported HTML5 games or a WebAssembly Flash Player such as Ruffle (which is used and sponsored by Newgrounds). In the latter case, the games can be hosted anywhere and current AoB hacks will likely still work.

That said, if we do shut down, I would really like anything publicly available (or at least the hacks) to be archived, e.g., through archive.org or archive.is.

Please don't let the site die :(
People come and go for sure but it's never empty.
I've been on this site since 2008-09 and just started partipating in it. I was just using the cheats and leave back in the day.
I'm sure there are leechers here and which is perfectly okay, I was one too, and this site is a huge monument in the history of the internet.
It should keep going as long as the hosting cost overthrows your budget.
I can try to give this site some attraction on the social media if you want to but I doubt thats your main focus.

After one of our servers failed the a few days ago, I had to change up some code, and managed to eliminate that server entirely, which should save about $10/mo.

I'll probably work on an update tomorrow so I can throw the actual billing data back in. That, and I've gotta figure out how I built that chat box on the main index so I can remove it entirely.

hmmm...just a suggestion but what about changing the focus from kongregate to project flashpoint which is working to archive old games across various platforms and engines? not just flash games.

and you guys already cover some unity games from kong here too.

There isn't a focus.  We've pretty much be "do whatever you want" for years.

The trainer has been dead for years, since Kolonel stopped development and left everything.  He even closed down his own website.

The site hasn't moved forward in about 7 years now with some super outdated code.

I don't have the time nor ambition to rewrite the KH website from scratch again.  I don't know shit about any flavor of C to take on trainer development.  Unless there's someone out there trustworthy and knowledgable that actually WANTS to work on the trainer, we're dead in the water.

Sad to hear this.  I've been a non-regular user but around since the initial launch.  I hope there is some angle you guys can find to keep things going.

I had a TON off stuff bookmarked. :P

Just cleared through everything I could there.  Lots of locking up, couple replies, etc.

Anyone have any ideas where to go from here?

wait a few months for the official death of flash and see how things evolve, if new platforms emerge or some new trend appears and then probably keep the old archive and pivot to what is popular or more in line with the times.

Merge with some other more varied community? shrug. Would be cool to have more people with more varied skillsets competing and growing

Hope everybody stays fine and whaever happens the good old days were always amazing!

Do you guys think it would be a good idea to open something like a Discord server?

Cheating is a way of life :)

I suggest sort of archiving the site: leave the hacks and the forums (for ulterior use, reference, nostalgic value, and especially for still updating games), scrub everything else (if not removing stuff, making them non-responsive). It would take a load off servers, and the site would still exist and function for those who want to use it. I wouldn't mind it if it went over to a free hosting service, if costs can't be covered, the one thing I would mind is if it ceased to exist/function. I don't care about emotes, lottery, profile beautification, etc, but I do care about the hacks. If that part stays, I say the rest can go. Regarding the trainer... I don't see a need to do anything with it. It works, doesn't it? Then let it keep on working, there is no real need to fiddle around with it. Well, maybe remove the login, so if the site dies it can still be used? :p This site has been a tremendous support for me, for almost a decade, both with cheats and hacks, both with learning, and I'd hate to see it die. But with kongregate shutting its doors, I can see the same fate befalling konghack too.
A side idea, not sure if it's even feasible, but still, better to put it out in the open: is there a possibility to make all game cheats/forums migrate to the wemod forums? It would add a useful aspect to their forums, and save the cheats here for the future.

I doubt anyone here would be into "take all of my hardwork and give it to someone else".

The idea of moving anything anywhere is a bit crazy.  I'm not into deleting anything, ever.  I'm not handing over anyone's info to anyone else, especially just some random forum that I've never seen before.

The general fear here is that, just like any software, this system may some day become vulnerable.  Running dynamic code always requires maintainence, of which we've done next to 0 in the last 7 years.  Essentially, leaving it open will eventually cause some kinda problem where we wind up exposing information no one should ever have access to.

I have absolutely no intentions of ever just erasing KongHack.  I'm more or less just concerned that, without development, we'll become vulnerable and eventually outright destroyed.

Dark Lord

I'm still logging on Kongregate daily but i admit i have not played a single game in months and the site itself is funametally dead.

I'm sad to see this site go but  i have absolutely no idea on what it can be done to make it "actual" again.

That was a really bad year, this is another piece of sh*t in it.
