Just thought I'd share with everybody...

Want to take a trip down memory lane with old school DOS games?  D-Fend Reloaded makes it easy for you to play your favorite DOS games directly on XP, Vista, and Windows 7.

D-Fend Reloaded is a great frontend for DOSBox, the popular DOS emulator.  It lets you install and run many DOS games and applications directly from its interface without ever touching a DOS prompt.  It works great on XP, Vista, and Windows 7 32 & 64-bit versions.

Nice one, gates... Sure, it brings back a lot of fond memories... I'm using D-fend and DOSBox myself, from some years now (I've been using old DOSBox before frontends, THE DOS CONSOLE, like it used to be). I also happen to have a... collection of old DOS games, some of them downloaded with... Kazaa, back in the old days (not all of them are free-share-abandonware, though). It is nice to see again the "progenitors" of modern gaming... Dune 1-2, Wing Commander 1-2, Commander Keen, Old Civ(ilization) - the "sacred monster" itself, Master of Orion 1-2, Eye of the Beholder 1-3, X-COM 1-3, the "Quest" series (Space, King's, Police, Hero's), the old romantic fantasy called "Loom", and all alike...

That game was awesome.

I use this AoB tool to make all the AoBs I post. Try the online version if you dont feel like downloading it.

Who doesn't remember Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Redneck Rampage or Blood!

These are the best top DOS FPS games ever! My most favourite one would be Blood, I always loved the gore, the badass voice acting and the strange curiosity and uneasiness on it.

FUCK YES!
That game is still one of my all time favorite games.  I found Part 2 somewhere surfing the net.  Great stuff.

I recently discovered an open source multiplayer addon for Jazz Jackrabbit. That game is almost as awesome as Prehistorik (2) :)

I still play a lot of DOS games. From times to times I visit Abandonia.com to see what's new. Sure, they don't have all the stuff, but at least it's something.
Still, for people who are used to using the DOS interface, it kind of grows into you I guess :p
While we're at it, Princess Maker 2 is fucking awesome :P

If you don't know how to use a hack, don't complain about them. Ask first, then complain.
In case you'd like me to update one of my hacks, please PM me, I'll bother updating them...

Yeah, Tyrian is one of the best shooters ever made.
Heard of Star Control 2? Try it, you won't regret it.

Pleasuredome has some huge DOS collections if you feel like torrenting. Undergroung Gamer was the best tracker for this kind of stuff, but sadly it is gone now...

btw. for many adventure games it's better to use ScummVM. I even have it on my WinMobile phone, lol.

I have gone to find myself. If I return before I get back, please hold me here until I arrive.

Blood was by far the best FPS at the time. Still, my reigning favorite is Master of Orion. The second and third installment sucked ass, but the first version was the shit.

There was this really fun dos game (i think) might have been windows 95. Where you control a limited amount of units and have to postion and move them around to stop huge armies.  I am trying to remember the name of it.  The theme of the game was very close to warcraft with the unit selction.

Is it War Wind? I don't think the number of units you can have is limited, but it's similar to Warcraft.

Its great to see classic games continue to be preserved in a playable state via tools like this, not just for nostalgia but also because there are certain games that just represent seminal moments in gaming. Things like Doom where suddenly FPS games actually started to have a Z dimension and as much as I love GOG they're only concerned with preserving a subset of the classics.
